Speech Production in Spanish-English Bilingual Speakers

This project investigates how Spanish-English bilingual speakers produce speech sounds in both languages, with a focus on vowels and fricatives.

Given the distinct phonemic inventories of Spanish and English, we are particularly interested in how a speakerโ€™s first language (L1: Spanish) influences the acquisition and production of their second language (L2: English).

As a concurrent project, we are also working on building a specific phonemic chart to representing the sound systems of different Spanish dialects. This work aims to enhance linguistic awareness and advocate for the dialectal variation in Spanish. Spanish dialects we are interested in are Argentinian, Caribbean, Central/South American, Dominican, and Puerto Rican.
